Surry Hills-based Smart Design Studio has designed the Lamble Residence, a contemporary beach house that overlooks the beautiful Gerrigong beach in New South Wales, Australia. Constructed out of timber cladding, a classic beach house material, the residence provides a 270 degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape from its elevated standpoint. The house defies conventional planning by locating the living room, second kitchen and master bedroom upstairs where the views are the most spectacular, with the rest of the rooms in the ground floor opening onto the extensive outdoor spaces on different sides of the house. A minimal reliance on doors lets the space flow around the cores of the joinery and blade walls, while the crisp white walls give a neutral base for art and other decorative features.
