Irish Whiskey Guide Part One: Buying on the Cheap

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up quickly and we all like to celebrate. We decided that this week we’d prepare for the festivities by ranking our top 3 Irish whiskeys in three different price points. The three ranges are Under $20, Under $45 and Under $65. We realize that some of you just wanted to get blasted on St. Patrick’s day–and that’s ok–but some of you would like to slowly build up a nice buzz by sippin’ on some quality stuff.

We’re starting of with the Under $20 category. For this one, we have two Irish whiskeys for you to check out. Both of them are fine straight, but one of them is meant to mix with other beverages.

Wolfhound Irish Whiskey $17.99
Scoring 91 points with Wine Enthusiast, you go in with high hopes on this Irish whiskey and you’re met with some pretty good results. If you need an affordable whiskey to drink on St. Patricks Day that doesn’t have too much of a bite and has good flavor this is the one to snag. We were surprised by the price for how good this whiskey was. Dare we say it…for the price, we think it’s better than Jameson. This whiskey has much more flavor than Jameson, and we 100% recommend this one.

2 Gingers Irish Whiskey $19.99
This whiskey is a direct competitor to Jameson and Bushmills. Taking that into consideration, don’t expect the world’s greatest whiskey, but don’t go into it thinking you’ve got the worst of the bunch. While this whiskey is ok straight I would recommend having this in a mixed drink aptly called the “Big Ginger”. We have recipe below if you want to check it out.
