Imagine that when you pass, rather than taking up space in a depressing cemetery, you become a beautiful, sprawling tree. An Italian company is trying to make that a reality.
Designed by Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel, the Capsula Mundi project seeks to take a deceased person’s body and place it into an organic, biodegradable capsule along with a tree (or tree seed) This way, your body becomes fuel for a new organism, in a cirle-of-life sort of way. It’s quite poetic when you think about it.
The ultimate goal is to turn cemeteries into memorial parks. Imagine visiting your grandfather’s tree, rather than just a tombstone.
